• That was a very special week !

In three times as a waltz !

    1- Keukenhof : A garden in Lisse

    2-Rest, writing and walks .

    3- Amsterdam

    1- Keukenhof : A garden in Lisse

That's a huge garden with tulips mainly, sculptures, canals, exhibitions and very big trees !

The springtime was late and the flowers were still bright and colourful on that last day of exhibition ! It opens 2 months a year and keeps busy 600 people. 7 millions of bulbs are planted each year by hand with local producers !

The tulips are like in a playground skipping and jumping with colours ! There are plenty of them and they all have names ! One is called ice cream ! Look at it ! It's inbelievable !

That day was a day off for me ! Maybe, I was missing my dear garden !

My feet were on the earth on that day ! But I was like a bee over those gardens which were like paintings.

I love gardens ! Dutch people do love them as well ! It's the welcome of the sun at home !

The gardens speak to each person...The garden of Keukenhof welcomes thousands of people...

Let's have a break far away from the wind and the rain !

    2-Rest, writing and walks

I have many things to do : writing, blog, contacts...let's go close to the Noordsee again !

I need a roof ! The camping of Lakkens is perfect and close to the national park of Zuid-kennemeerland in dunes. A shelter could be fine for 3 days.

I got it and I am like in a cosy home !

Look at the picture of the caravan....It's not the same as in my green kennel even if I like very much my little kennel !

    3- Amsterdam

A big town with lots of trees ! Nice town and good atmosphere ! Nice buildings ! ... Plenty of bicycles ....which look like ants going everywhere with children as well. My bike is happy to meet so many friends in a short time on very special cycling roads ! It's really a government choice. That one is really good for social life and ecological transportation.I met the cyclist that I've met on the road the week before and live in his appartment for a few days. Wonderful ! Many thanks Marnix !

I walk a lot and take the tramway; et hop ! Rembrandt house, Van Goh exhibition will feed my spirit for a while ! So much water and bridges give a peaceful image of the town !

Oh ! What's that noise ? This is a demonstration against GMO !

I join it and talk to people who organize that movement regularly. It happens in many towns in the world. It's a great debate between citizens in the world ! The seeds are part of the common earth. "Let Mother Nature bee "

And now, let's go to Zwolle ! Why ?

  • Semaine spéciale ! Comme une valse à trois temps !

     1- Keukenhof : Un jardin à Lisse

    2-Repos, écriture et marche

    3- Amsterdam

     "OGM? Serait -il un gangster

Qui légifère graines et terre ?

    Question d'élément terre,

Ah bon, pourquoi ?

  • A WEEK OF TRANSITIONS, OF CROSSINGS AND OF GREY MOOD INTO THE SKY !

In Calais, the clouds are as heavy as my bike ! It' s raining cats and dogs !

My bike and I will find a shelter to the Youth Hostel of Calais ! Then, I have sent 4 kilos of uselessl things at my home in France. Do I need everything ? What's the difference between a need and a need ? Great question of the life !

There are many quotations all over the walls of the youth hostel like that one : (See the picture in french, of course, which says : "The table is the mediator of friendship ")

Now, I am feeling as light as the clouds and I ride the next day to Dunkerque.

Lovely road ! I discover the flat countryside and can see lots of birds. I stop in OYE-PLAGE ! (=Goose-strand) There are fresh, french fries ! Fred and Françoise, the owners, spent a long while with me, talking and dreaming, sharing with me their french fries ! Many thanks for your smile !

Close to St Pol sur Mer, I met a tricycle ! Let's go for a drink and a great talk about bikes and philosophy ! His retirement concentrates him on making tricycles for fun. Henri is very proud of his creation made with recycled iron ! Well done, Henri !

The Youth Hostel of Dunkerque is nice and friendly ! There is a special room for bikes ! It's close to the Northern See ! Its waves and its wind will join me a long way as a company.

The ancient belgian doll has been replaced by a chocolate shop Leonidas ! If all the borders could melt like chocolate, it will be perfect ! Here I am in the flemish part of Belgium, The Flanders !

Rain, rain, rain, again ! Sometimes, there are some drops of rain, sometimes there is rain in one go, sometimes there is a whole delivery of many clouds full of......grains of rain ! I deal with it and I enter the dunes . The names on signs become foreign names with very special pronounciation ! It's in dutch ! Nobody is outside on those enormous dykes ! Just me and my dreams !

Even with the weather in bad mood, I ride with the tought of Julos Beaucarne, belgian singer : "Go with the discovery of the inner sun,...we live often under the shadow of ourselves; "

Many cycling roads ands paths welcome the cyclists. Dutch and french languages are often heard. Ostende is my last belgian stop before Netherlands. I had some troubles sometimes for a shelter for my bike at night but my blue horse and I have always found a safe and warm place each evening.

Look at the sunset ! That's the only one I've seen for so long ! (Look at it as long as you can !)

In Netherlands, bikes are kings ! I've met lots of students and pupils riding with their whole classroom for class outings.

Vlissingen....I am really in Netherlands....Bikes, bikes, bikes ......everywhere !

Cycling roads everywhere ! That's fun and that's safe ! My bike is flying and rolling like the wings of the mills (=molen in dutch) or the wings of the wind farm !

One cyclist asked me the road for Outdorp ! Of course, I know perfectly that way ! I just crossed Outdorp before we met ! I was proud of my information to a dutch cyclist with very large bikes bags ! Oh, he is bilingual french and dutch ! We have exchange good adresses ! We'll meet again soon in Amsterdam where I'll be for four days.

Human kindness and generosity are not legends !

    I tried a "mini-camping" in Tinte. It's a tiny campsite of 12 or 15 places. We're not many on that one ! But my neighbours, specially the dutch ladies Ingrrrrrid and Jose came to see me and asked me a few existential questions : Where are you from and where are you going to ? They made me my roadmap for the next day. We celebrated that with a glass ! They asked me questions about my job...What ? Storyteller ? What's the activity of a storyteller ? I wake up a few stories in english and they were very impressed and happy ! That evening was very special ;

As Paul Eluard (french poet) says : "There is nothing at random, just appointments".

I left the mini-camping with my precious roadmap. I will meet an other Jose on my way to Delft. She will be my guide for the afternoon ! I can't be lost with those wonderful ladies !

The days are full of surprises. Many Thanks to Fred, Françoise, Henri, Marnix, Ingrid, Jose, Jose and all the anonymous people who gave me an hand or a smile...on my way !

  • VERSION FRANCAISe DANS L'ARTICLE SUIVANT

    Hello,
Here's the english version of my journey from the second month, May ! (See the pictures : côte anglaise)
I spent April in Brittany along the "Canal d'Ille et Rance" and the green lane up to St Malo. I had several storytelling performances in different places along the way (farms, libraries, tearoom, schools, leisure centre, sportive club, hairdresser, crêperie des lutins, bars).
Thank you to the 18 houses who have welcome me in April !

    1- The cross

The 6th of may, I left St Malo on a ferry on a sunny day . We were three bikes in the ferry beside many cars and lorries. Just one traveller : Marie Chiff'mine.

    2- First night .....Vrrrr......vrr...

When I arrived in Porthmouth, it was still the bank holiday and many people were out for parties. I 've got lots of cycling roads from the port . I found a campsite in southeast and I pitched my tent for the first time of my trip . It was a really fresh night ! Vrr ! Vrr ! Some people of the campsite from Scotland and from Holland went to talk to me about my bike which was ready for new adventures. Great talk about time and choices in life ! So the bike is really magic for communication ! My first month in Brittany has already proved that !

    3- Guides on the road

I have a map but it's not enough ! So I've asked my way often and it was a great occasion of talking, learning the local history and meeting people ! I met people who biked with me for some kilometers sometimes like Marcus and July .  Thank you to the cycles Barreg of Chichester for some energy in my tyres ! Oh ! ...Chichester is a nice place....with a huge cathedral. But it's more than 6 o'clock in the evening ...It's time to look after a nest for the night ! I 've planned to stop at Bognor Regis ...But I couldn't leave that town of Chichester... I was like a mouse in a labirynth when I suddenly saw two cyclists...I asked them the way to get Bognor Regis...They shouted : Come with us, we go there ! So we had a nice road together, talking about the country and biking. They had no car, just bikes. When we arrived in Bognor Regis, they asked me to stay to their home for dinner and night. What a nice evening with Barbara and Milek ! Thank you for such a warm welcome ! Milek said that the bike was the best way of communication.
That was my first day in England ! I had many guides on that day !

    4- Along the coast...

The weather was quite windy and cold but sunny and dry ! That was my first week abroad !
Maybe ten times a day, people asked me : Where are you from ? When are you going to ?
When I returned those questions to myself, I thought that those questions are the ones of each age. Each life is a trip with a lot of ways to chose.
"Where there is a wish, there is a way ."
When I lost my way, I've asked people who were in some ways most of the time like fairies on the way. People helped me all the way.
The nights were so fresh and cold that I couldn't camp any more and I found warm bed and breakfast !
I' ve followed the coast with the sea on my right as a companion. After Brighton,  I met the first hills...with the wind and the cold ! The clouds are working at night and I'm always out of the rain.  On daytime, the sun is there ! I'm always on cycling roads and I enjoy the landscapes ....with steep hills  and the wind !  Waouh ! I have to walk sometimes with my heavy bike ! That was an other occasion of meeting people who gave me their hand for pushing my bike up to the hill....Thank you Peter, Ruby and Lewis in Hastings on Barley Lane !
I had easy days those days ! I stopped in Seaford and left my bike bags in a bed and breakfast for a while ! I biked up to the beach lane meeting geese, rabbits ans sheep along my way. What a beautiful end with the seashore full of colorful stones. Those stones were like notes for the sea ! I still have the song of the tide over those magic stones in my ears.
And the best was those white huge cliffs called the seven sisters. Seven sisters impose their look to the sea ! Seven sisters....that could be a nice tale !
But first let's try a short poem :

    Seven white pages
    Standing into the sea
And the wind as a pencil !

5- English Storytellers : Roisin MURRAY, Emily PARRISH, Nick HENNESSEY

The other days had some up an down and made me very  tired and also close to a professionnal soryteller : Roisin Murray from Deal ! I'm very happy to meet her. I got lost in Folkestone and got some troubles for the cycling roads and the one way roads...I gave up and Roisin and her husband Wallace picked me up near the harbour of Folkestone ! Nice meeting between biking storytellers . Roisin and Wallace are used to tandemholidays ! We share our experiences of storytelling and share some stories ans songs. Lovely stay in Deal !
We joined Emily Parrish from Margate. She runs a storytelling club and is a professionnal storyteller also. Nick Hennessey was there too! Here's a storytellers'meeting in Emily's garden ! It's a sunny sunday ! Nick talked to us about a international storytelling festival in Zwolle in Netherlands at the end of may ! Why not ? It's on my road !
Those sorytellers are very enthousiastic and enjoy sharing and developping storytelling in the Kent area and more !

    6-To the end ...!

We visited Canterbury, the cathedral and the medieval village ...We also had teatime in the village of Sandwich ! No sandwiches at that last lovely dinner ! Thank you Roisin and Wallace for such a warm welcome !
On monday the 14th, it's time to take the ferry at Dover...an other page is expected.
Wallace joined me as a guide up to the port ! Thank you very much !
I was lucky with the rain which has played hide and seek all the time !
That english chapter of my trip was an entrance for meeting english storytellers and training me in speaking english all the time.  That will be very useful for the next countries !
Oh ! After the cross from Dover to Calais, be careful ! You have to bike on the right side ! OK !
    Bonjour Calais !
    Marie Chiff'mine
